Mauldin Photography in NEA Gameface

If you check out the current issue of NEA Gameface, I have a featured portrait in the article on Laci Cockrill and Allyson Freeman, our local celebrity softball players. I was excited when Connie Boyster called the other day to let me know the new issue had arrived. I think George's is going to be our local outlet to pick up copies of the magazine. You can also check out the issue online at www.neagameface.com ...although yesterday when I checked it was still the previous issue! This was one of my favorite portraits from our session for the article:

Congratulations, girls! You rock! - Cheryl

Thank You Jackson County!

So I am sitting at my desk yesterday afternoon when Lindsay from the Newport Daily Independent shows up in my doorway. The paper has an annual competition for readers to select the Best of the Best. I am so excited that I was selected as the 2008 Best Photographer in Jackson County! How cool is that?

One of the best parts of my job is the people that I get to meet. I have met some of the most amazing people over the past three years. Every session, in its own way, is so awesome and fun.

So, Thank You Jackson County - I am truly honored! To my clients - you guys rock! - Cheryl

You May Be on the Pizza Hut Wall

Chris and Patricia at the Newport Pizza Hut are in the redecorating mood, and have ordered a number of stock photographs to hang on the wall. I can say that a number of area youth will be featured on the wall - from pee wee age to Senior High age. Maybe you are one of them! Local attractions / famous buildings are also some of the Mauldin Photography featured portraits. Be sure to visit Pizza Hut and check out the new decor in the very near future! - Cheryl

Baby Abraham....coming soon!

At some point in the next four or five weeks Baby Abraham will join the Nelson Family. I met up with them Monday evening to do the maternity session. It was great to meet them all. Josiah and Cain cracked me up the whole time. It is obvious there is a lot of love in this family and they are excited to welcome Abraham to their family. I wanted to share some of my favorite images from the session:

It was great to meet you all. I hope you had as much fun as I did with your session. You have a beautiful family! Your gallery should post over the weekend! - Cheryl

Football!

Can you believe that football season starts in just a couple of weeks? It seems like the summer just flew by. Greyhound football will be in full swing at the end of the month. I am sooo excited!

I plan on being on the sidelines again this season covering all the action as much as possible. I have contracted wedding that may interfere with some of the Friday night games, but plan on covering everything from 4th grade peewee to the Greyhounds as my appointment calendar allows.

Don't forget to check out mauldinphotography.com to see all your best plays. Games will post by date soon after each game, usually within a day or two. For the players and parents we have some new great products for this season that you are going to love! Scrapbook pages were a big hit last year, and I will have those again this year. My vendor has announced wall clings will be released as a product in just a few weeks, and you can literally order a life-size wall poster of your favorite player.

Something new to this season is the senior tribute. Every Greyhound senior (12th grade) football player, cheerleader, and Whippet can get one free 8x10 this football season. Just send me a message through the website telling me you want a senior tribute, with the image number you want. This request must be made by the senior, and you must provide your whole name. Include your mailing address in the message. This offer is good until one week after the final football game. Sorry, only one free photo per senior for the 2008 football season!

Last call for Softball & Baseball

It's that time of year again....time to start making room for football! On or about August 31st, all the softball and baseball for 2008 JCYAA and McCrory leagues and game will be removed from the website. So, if you've been nursing a softball or baseball order, this is your last call to get those image numbers before the images disappear! - Cheryl

Rydder & Olivia

I met the cutest kids on Monday! Rydder is one month old, and Miss Olivia is two. These two cuties are cousins and the occasion was Rydder's one-month portraits. Of course, I also got to meet Rydder's parents and Olivia's mom. Just a beautiful family and I wanted to share a few of my favorites from the session. Both kids were actually hams for the camera, even Rydder at one-month old was fascinated by the strobe lights.

You guys have the cutests kids! Your gallery will post over the weekend! - Cheryl

Mauldin Photography is so excited to announce our feature presentation in the 2008 Bridal Guide CD-ROM. The photo above is a little preview of the featured ad. I am so thrilled to be included this year! - Cheryl

She is an active member of the Professional Photographers of America, Wedding and Portrait Professionals International, and Society of Sports and Event Photographers. Cheryl is known for her story-telling style of wedding photography.

Cheryl is described by her clients as artistic, talented, and fun to work with. One bride raved that her wedding album looked like a David's Bridal catalog! Brides often tell her they cried the first time they saw their wedding portraits. Cheryl's desire to create beautiful and artistic portraits is evident by her passion for photography. She is most proud of her customer service and ability to create an "experience" for her clients.

The Bridal Guide presentation will be included with the November 2008 issue, and features Mauldin Photography as the exclusive wedding photographer for Arkansas and Kansas.

My life with computers

If a picture truly is worth a 1000 words, that icon should just say it all! I will admit, I don't know how I would ever live without my computers. But, there is nothing more frustrating than when computers do not work the way they are supposed to work. Last year I had to deal with the crash of my PC that basically was the hub of all things workflow related. And, even though you'd think I would learn to have everything on all of the computers completely backed up - that would just make too much sense. Hopefully the handy dandy software I ordered will recover my accounting files....or I will get to spend many fun days trying to re-key all my receipts for this year. OMG! So fingers are crossed while I wait for the postman to deliver that package.... - Cheryl

Congratulations Jan and Jason

Just booked Jan and Jason's wedding for next month, and I am so excited! Jan practically raised my girls at daycare, so I feel like I have known her forever. Congratulations guys, can't wait to photograph your wedding! - Cheryl

Whitney & Josh

M&M's are my absolute favorite candy in the whole world, so I couldn't resist this shot!

I met Josh and Whitney earlier in the year when I did their e-session. So I've been looking forward to shooting their wedding all year. And, that day came last Saturday. Man, was it hot! It was almost impossible to shoot anything outside because of the heat and steam.

But we were all troopers and made it through the heat for a beautiful wedding. Everyone was so nice and easy to work with. Whitney was a gorgeous bride and hopefully has nothing but wonderful memories of her wedding day.

I quickly scanned through and picked some of my favorite shots from the day and here is a little preview:

This is my absolute favorite shot from the entire day!

Now, this is a fun group of girls. They definitely kept me and Whitney entertained all day!

How cute is she???

And, if this isn't a GQ spread, I don't know what is!

I personally loved the bling on the wedding cake! (Cake and reception decor provided by The Wedding Gallery in Jonesboro)

This is funny to me...venus and mars! Look how excited the girls are about the bouquet toss....and the guys look like the garter might bite them if they touch it. That's just funny!

Josh and Whitney, thank you so much for including me in your wedding day! I wish you nothing but the best and a long lifetime of love! (Your gallery will post over the weekend) - Cheryl

Infant Bereavement and Remembrance Photography

Each year nearly 3.3 million babies are stillborn, and more than 4 million others die within 28 days of coming into the world. With advanced medical technology, it is a parent's expectation that those born to us will out-live us. When a baby dies, it is outside the natural order of life and families are left devastated and forever changed.

Remembrance Photography is a very important step in the healing process. Photographs are one of the most precious and tangible mementos that a parent can have, showing the love and bond that was given and shared with their baby. These portraits will last for generations, and will honor and remember a tiny life that is forever loved and cherished.

People tell me all the time, "I don't know how you do it!" That's the common response when I talk about shooting an infant bereavement session. Honestly when I first considered offering the service, I thought with my background as a registered nurse and experience in OB, that it would give me some kind of edge. The reality is that except for the understanding of the medical terminology, it really doesn't help at all. The is no experience comparable to being let into a family's private grieving over the loss of a baby. There is no experience I can draw on that makes me immune to the emotions and sense of loss that always touches the human side of me.

On the other hand, there is no other service that I offer that is more rewarding. Knowing that I can provide lasting memories of a child that parents will only hold for a few moments is one of the greatest rewards.

I became affiliated with the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization in March, but have offered these sessions independently for about two years. Each session is unique and no less emotional than the last. It's not something that just gets easier with time, because that's the human side of what I do. I can photograph sessions in the hospital after birth, in a hospice, or in the home for terminally ill infants and children. This service is at no cost to the family, and they receive a set of retouched digital negatives from the session.

Every family tells me the portraits become one of their greatest treasures. Some families cannot immediately view the slide show or photographs, and some want to see them as soon as possible. We all heal in different ways, and that's okay. Remembrance photography is just one way to hold onto the memory of a child that left an imprint on their heart.

I currently serve the following counties in Arkansas: Jackson, White, Independence, Lawrence, and Craighead. All it takes is a telephone call to get me to your hospital room, provided that I am not already committed to another client at that time. I book sessions through both my studio number and referrals from the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization.

If you are a family coping and trying to heal after the loss of a child, or a photographer looking for one of the most rewarding causes to get involved in, visit the NILMDTS website. - Cheryl
