ambeR rubarth, Memphis

Friday night I met ambeR Rubarth in Memphis for a photo shoot before her recording session at Sun Studio. I have followed her music on myspace, and was really excited to get this opportunity. So we met for the magic hour of outdoor lighting and found some amazing backdrops in the area between downtown and midtown. Fred was kind enough to let us take over the front of Quetzel's for part of our shoot. Thanks, Fred! For me the area was a dream because it had that urban look and feel that makes outdoor metropolitan photography so cool. Graffiti, old buildings, internet cafes... what better back drop could you ask for?

If you aren't yet an amber fan, check out her music. The Hub, THE source for music news on myspace, has featured her as the artist of the week - you can read that article here. I am not only impressed with her musical abilities (both guitar and piano) and beautiful voice; but also her lyrical way of telling a story through poetry and emotion just blew me away. I certainly don't profess to be a music critic, but I can't get "Rough Cut" out of my head. Her new CD will be out soon. Be sure and check out ambeR's music.

It was also cool to hang out with James, Jeff, Matt and John again! I love being at Sun Studio. The guys are great to work. And, Jeff bought us dinner at Quetzel's, which was amazing. I highly recommend this place - not only is the food wonderful, but the atmosphere is amazing. Fred has a good thing going at Quetzel! Of course, calimocho made the night - thanks Matt!

Amber, I had a blast on this shoot! I think the images are just amazing and really captured YOU. From over 500 images taken, here are my favorites:

ambeR Rubarth at Sun Studios!

I am so excited! Again, through the wonders of myspace, I have made a new "friend" with a talented singer / songwriter, ambeR Rubarth. We will be shooting at Sun Studio this Friday during her recording.

I always do a little research on the artist and listen to their music to get a feel for them and their style. I have to say, I am loving her music right now. You can check out her music here

I am really excited at this, can't wait to see James and Jeff again, it's a blast to work with them. Check back over the weekend to see some previews of ambeR's session! - Cheryl

Images from Sun Studio session with Five Times August

Last Thursday I had one of the coolest experiences I have ever had as a photographer. Photographing Brad Skistimas (a.k.a. Five Times August) at Sun Studio goes down as one of the best experiences I've had yet. Brad was there filming a live performance at the studio. This was a very intimate gathering of fans and Brad in acoustic style...very "storyteller!" You can read about his experience on his myspace or website blog Click here to go to Brad's myspace blog.
Or, click here for the website blog.I felt very much the same way he did.

You can't help but feel the legacy of Sun Studio when you visit. I mean Elvis got his start here, for crying out loud! How can you not be impressed with just the history that has occurred there? As a true music lover, just being there was at times overwhelming. Having access to the Studio and being a part of Brad's history at Sun Studio was truly an amazing experience for me.

Brad and Kelly, thank you so much for including me. It was so great to meet you and get to work with you. I love your music, am inspired by what you are doing, and believe you'll have great success in pursuing your dreams.

To James, Jeff, Matt, Slim, John, Shaun, and all the crew at Sun Studios - what can I say? You guys absolutely rock! You guys do a fabulous job of "creating an experience" for the artist. I feel privileged to have met you and worked with you all. Thank you for allowing me to be part of Brad's experience. And, for all the tips and pointers along the way! I have prints on the way from the session! Click here to go to Sun Studio's website.

The Five Times August CD, "Brighter Side" will be released on March 18th, make sure you go buy a copy. Click here to go to the Five Times August website.

Here are some of my favorite images from the session. (And, yes I was still a tourist , too!) The entire gallery of images will be posted here later in the week.- Cheryl
