The Lore Family

I have known Melissa for years and years, but had never had the chance to meet her whole family. We took advantage of the gorgeous weather this past weekend to capture their new family portraits. It was a great afternoon of getting to know her family, and letting the kids just be kids. Here are my favorites from their session:

Thanks, Melissa, for asking me to photograph your family. I really enjoyed getting to know them all. - Cheryl

Laura, Sr '09

Laura and her mom, Lesa, drove down from Little Rock during spring break for me to photography her Senior Style Session. She graduates from Lutheran High School in Little Rock in just a few months. Laura was lots of fun and I think the many sides of her personality really came out in her photographs. Check out her slideshow preview above. Here are my favorites from her session:

It was great to meet you guys. I had a blast photographing you! Your gallery will post the first of next week. - Cheryl

Gary

Arkansas' crazy Spring weather always makes outdoor portraits a challenge. You just never know...will it be hot? cold? snowing? So, I was so happy Wednesday when it was a warm gorgeous day with blue skies. I met Gary at Jacksonport to photograph his new truck. I have been photographing Gary for a couple of years now, but usually he's in full football gear on Greyhound Field. Here are my favorite images from his session:

Hope you guys love his portraits. I think we caught his fun side, as well as his love for football. Of course, I'll catch you again this fall when football season starts. - Cheryl

Hard work, dedication and passion for what you do

That was how Pat Summit, head coach of the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team, summed up how she has achieved so much success in her career. It's no secret to anyone who knows me that I am a huge Lady Vols fam, and even bigger Pat Summit fan.

Women's basketball has made a lot of strides in the last 35 years, earning enough attention and respect to command prime time slots on ESPN. One of the biggest reasons that women's college basketball has become such an institution is Pat Summit. She's won more games than any other male or female NCAA Division I basketball coach. Summit now has a record of 1,000-187, unmatched in college basketball. 16,058 watched Summit's history at Thompson Boiling-Arena - her signature scrawled across center court of the Arena! Andy Landers, Georgia head coach summed up her achievement adeptly following the game, “You just don’t see the bar go that high and stay that high very often in anything. Think about it a minute. They’ve been able to do that for 35 years. Holy cow."

Empowering, impressive, and a great role model for young women. And, she makes Lady Vol basketball so much fun to watch!

-Through her first 34 seasons, Summitt averaged 28.9 victories and just 5.4 losses per season.
-Never had a losing season
-32 consecutive seasons with at least 20 wins
-18 seasons with more than 30 wins
-27 consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament
-18 trips to the Final Four in that tournament
-8 national championships

That's why I always say, Pat Summit rock! - Cheryl

2009 Ice Storm

I wanted to share some photographs of the ice storm we had last week. After pouring freezing rain all night on Tuesday, the impact of this ice storm has been massive to our part of the state. North and northwest of Newport the destruction is actually much worse. Our neighborhood lost electricity around 4pm on Tuesday. I think I understood the magnitude to my community around 6pm when I drove through town and it was a complete blackout. It was very eery. It took me two hours on Wednesday morning to clear my driveway of tree limbs in order to get the car out. This is the scene we awoke to on Wednesday:

My yard and trees literally looked like a tornado had came through. I have never seen so many tree limbs and sticks in one place. You cannot imagine what it sounded like when these huge limbs would break off and hit the house. Amid all the transformers blowing up - it sounded like a war zone! These pics are from my own yard:

Max was loving the ice and snow, crazy dog. I think she was just happy to have all the sticks to chew on.

And, this would be the site of the hole in my roof that we discovered yesterday when the ice finally started melting!

And proof that there really is beauty in everything - the art and beauty of the sunrise through the icy tree limbs:

Luckily, aside from a hopefully small hole in my roof, we escaped this storm fairly unscathed. It definitely sounded much worse than it actually was. I know there are lots of people still without electricity and some who have lost much more. So, our thoughts and prayers are with you. - Cheryl

2008 - A Year in Pictures

I was going through images last night and decided to post a little review of the people and places of 2008. It brought back a lot of great memories of the wonderful poeple I met and the cool places I got to visit over the last year. Hope you enjoy the trip through 2008:
